Food, Technology and Beverage Vol.4 – December 2001
A Success Story of a Young HK Entrepreneur in Hospitality Sector
Be There Or Be Square Café (不見不散茶餐廳) was
established by a Hong Kong youngster, Willy Chu in
Beijing in 1998. Willy was not specialized in the food
and beverage sector when he was in Hong Kong. He
however travelled a lot between Hong Kong and China.
He was motivated with the idea to set up the restaurant
when he experienced the difficulty to have a cup of tea at
a café in Beijing apart from that of the hotel coffee shop.
Having realized the need to create a stopover and resting place for those middle class
consumers especially in a city with 30 million population, Willy stepped in to Beijing to
start with his business ambition. The bright decision coupled with sound management
ideas has swiftly stirred up the opening of two more outlets within three years. As at end
of 2001, there are a total of 3 shops in Beijing. To keep customers with impressive image,
the three shops have unique fittings and atmosphere and are offering different types of
food.
The food varies from Vietnamese snacks, Japanese robatayaki and traditional Hong Kong
styles, such as Chinese BBQ pork and poultry etc. You may hardly believe that the three
shops served a total of more than 700 food varieties. The menus are being updated in
every 3 months.
Willy stressed the importance of modernized management
in running the business. The majority of his workers are
recruited locally, including the chef. In line with their
quality management, they adopted Seito ® Food & Beverage Management System as one of their management tool for
further business development. As one of the Seito's user,
Willy is impressed by our after-sales service support. He said
nothing is more important than the service support when
one is operating under a computerized environment.
